Update: On 27th June I successfully completed the South Downs Double in 23:31 hours. This makes me the 7th person to have achieved it in a sub 24 hour time.

The South Downs Way stretches 100 miles from Eastbourne to Winchester incorporating 10,000 feet of hill climbing. Many keen cyclists have ridden the off road route over 2 or 3 days with the extremely fit managing it all in just one day. Richard Sterry is going for the Double where he will ride from Eastbourne to Winchester and back. The 200 mile epic journey has only ever been completed by 10 riders with just 6 top athletes finishing within 24 hours. Following intensive training since October and buckets of determination, he wants to see if a reasonably fit 43 year old can achieve something truly outstanding. Riding solo all through the night and most of the following day has its challenges. Concentrating for 24 hours whilst pedalling up the relentless hills and going through nearly 200 gates will be extremely mentally and physically tough. MaXx eXposure has provided a set of powerful lights to help him during the long dark hours, and Sauce Consultancy is providing other help and funding. Richard is raising money for the British Heart Foundation and this is where we need your assistance. His ambitious challenge deserves all the support you can give for such a worthy cause. Please consider what you can give, then double it for this Double epic ride. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: British Heart Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.Recently there have been problems with the JustGiving site. If you are unable to donatel online, I have a paper form at work, or you can email me at richard@sterry.org for more contact information.
