Story
I am by no means a natural long distance runner. I was always a sprinter at school and thought I was quite good at it until Christian Malcolm left me for dust at a race in Brecon when I was 15. I have enjoyed most of the training so far but now it's getting serious and my body is starting to hurt!
I have been the supporter of the Prince's Trust for approximately 18 months contributing to awards ceremonies and various programmes of work. It has been very rewarding to see young people with a few or even many problems overcome them and reshape their lives for the better with the support of the Prince's Trust.
Prince's Trust Cymru is led by Phil Jones who has exceptional vision and ambition for the Trust so I was thrilled when he asked me to join The Prince's Trust Cymru Advisory Council. As an Advisory Council we are firmly committed to doubling the number of people supported in Wales over the next five years to 6,000.
The Prince's Trust helps disadvantaged young people to get their lives on track. It supports 13 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed and those struggling at school and at risk of exclusion. Many of the young people helped by The Trust are in or leaving care, facing issues such as homelessness or mental health problems, or they have been in trouble with the law.
The Trust's programmes give vulnerable young people the practical and financial support needed to stabilise their lives, helping develop self-esteem and skills for work. Three in four young people supported by The Prince' s Trust move into work, education or training. The Prince of Wales's charity has helped over 840,000 young people since 1976.
