Story
In celebration and memory of my Mum and my colleague Sue, I’ll be tackling the London Marathon on 23rd April 2023 for Guy’s Cancer Charity. This will challenge me considerably and I’m equally excited as I am terrified. I’m honoured to be running and fundraising for Guy’s Cancer Charity so that work can continue to advance cancer care. I know only too well the support the charity can provide for patients, working as a speech and language therapist in the Community Head And Neck Cancer Team at Guy’s & St. Thomas’.
In 2020, 11.7% of all cancers were female breast cancer, making it the most common cancer worldwide. There are around 56,000 new cases of breast cancer every year in the UK (based on 2016-2028 data). Thanks to incredible advances in research, treatment, care and early detection, 85% of women are surviving breast cancer for five years or more. Breast cancer survival has doubled in the past 40 years in the UK alone.
Sadly and like many, my family and I have been affected by breast cancer. My Mum, Julie, was diagnosed in 2002 and passed away when she was 48 in 2007. My colleague, Sue, was diagnosed in 2021 and passed away when she was 41 in February 2022.
Your support and donations, however big or small, are very much appreciated. Please share my page with family, friends, colleagues etc.
Thank you!
Richard
