Story
To call 2020 an unexpected year, would be an understatement and injustice. In December 2020, our wonderful dad and husband, Richard, sadly passed away after a courageous and challenging battle against cancer. We are raising money in memory of him, in hope of helping improve the quality of life for all individuals and families affected by bowel cancer; and ultimately to help find a cure to this terrible disease.
Dad was first diagnosed with stage four terminal cancer in February 2018, primarily identified in his bowel, which spread further to both his lungs and liver. From his initial diagnosis, he vowed to do everything he could in his power and strength to fight this, and he really did.
During this time, Dad endured many gruelling procedures including two separate lung operations to remove tumours, bowel removal surgery, numerous courses of intense chemotherapy and radiotherapy, as well as many other treatments, without a single complaint.
The effects of such procedures are not only physically taxing on the body, but also have a huge impact on mental health too; including those of family members. In spite of this, he still managed to play the best golf of his life and ski down the slopes as fast as ever.
Nearly 10,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer each year. We would be extremely grateful if you would help support this ambitious target to provide support for everyone affected by the disease. Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
