I am approaching 65 and it’s almost five years since I became a bilateral below-knee amputee. I use two prosthetic legs aided by a rollator or two sticks to walk, but my overall mobility is relatively poor.
I recently received an email from LimbPower asking for volunteers to commit to their “100 People - £100 – 100 Days” Challenge, to fundraise £100 for LimbPower by completing my own challenge.
Last year, I started training for a “Couch to 3k Walk” Challenge, But I had to abandon my attempt as in late April, I was hospitalised with sepsis. So, I was re-enthused to once again try to complete my own “Armchair to 2k*Walk” Challenge on Tuesday 25th June, with my training starting from Tuesday 12th March.
(*Final walk distance to be established by 23rd May 2019 based on Richard’s performance in training.)
This is a great time for me to start, as I have just had major modifications to both my prosthetic legs and I need to get accustomed to them and aided just by my sticks. What better way is there, than following a comprehensive 100-day training programme.
My training programme will be overseen by both my personal walking coach, Bill, from “Crazy Legs” and by my PARiS▪ coach, Ant, from “Life Leisure” Avondale Gym in Stockport.
( ▪ PARiS = Physical Activity Referral in Stockport )
My weekly training will entail two forms of coached activities:
I will also engage in walking endurance practices at least once every weekend with my family.
I will record details of all my completed training activities on a weekly basis, both in terms of distances walked and time spent on various training activities, and I will regularly provide updates on my training performance at my Just Giving website.
I have set myself a number of targets to help motivate me achieve my LimbPower challenge:
Much rests with me to do and achieve, so on behalf of LimbPower and me "A Big Thanks for your sponsorship donation and support."
