Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
Let me introduce myself, my name is Richard Willis.
As some of you may or may not be aware back in December 2007 at the age of 38 I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer, an interesting time!
Let me set the scene.........
During the usual Sunday morning shower I couldn't help but notice the smallest of lump on the surface of my left testicle. After a bit of poking and prodding it was decided that I seek some medical advice. By the following Friday I found myself in Yeovil Hospital in front of a consultant with a lump measuring 60mm across.
After what seemed an age the news that I had a Malignant Seminoma Tumor was announced along with the news I was to have the operation the following week to remove my left testicle, Christmas week as I recall. The next few weeks were a blur of hospitals, tests, injections and all matter of "testicle cupping" (just the one by now) culminating with the start of the dreaded "Chemo" on the 1st Feb 2008.
Like most people I had no idea about Chemotherapy prior to all this, my particular brand of "Chemo" was called Carboplatin, an interesting chemical which left me feeling, well you can imagine, for about 4 months.
My Chemotherapy and my subsequent out-patient treatment and check-ups were undertaken at the "Bristol Oncology Centre", this facility is located behind the Bristol Royal Infirmary. It is because of the expertise and care of the staff of the BOC that I am writing this short piece and asking all of you to please donate whatever you can through this page to allow these people to help hundreds more people like me survive the dreaded C.
On the 5th June 2010 I am participating in the Blenheim Palace Super Sprint Triathlon, my aim is to raise not only money but awareness of Testicular Cancer and how important it is to not be embarrassed to check and seek advice if any lumps appear where there shouldn't be lumps.
For me the triathlon in June is more than just a swim, cycle and run. Its closure, its me being back to normal and fitter than ever!
