Story
I have the privilege of working for this incredible local charity which is fighting cancer at every corner by investing in ground breaking research, running awareness and prevention campaigns, supporting those living with cancer whilst also seeking to influence legislation. It takes all of these things to comprehensively tackle and beat the disease!
In March 2021 I lost my Dad to cancer after his courageous battle against the disease over a decade. So I have decided to do this to honour his memory, and especially because he was so proud and supportive of the world class cancer research facilities that we have right here on our doorstep at Queens University.
By sponsoring me, you'll be helping to fund ground breaking research at Queens. There have been exciting recent advances in immunology and cancer. Immunotherapy is developing news way to highlight cancer cells so our natural immune system can detect, respond and destroy these cells.
I have no doubt Dad would have a right laugh at this 'eejit' attempting a marathon given I'm not a runner and have a dodgy knee!!! But, as he always did throughout my life, he would have been the very first person to support me. How he fought his illness with faith, determination and courage is what has been inspiring me to keep going with the training (which is really tough!!!).
Dad never once complained during 10 years of cancer treatments and surgery. I can't say I haven't complained on some of the arduous training runs!
This is genuinely a big ask for me to complete a marathon but I will give it my best shot and I'll do it for Dad.
Going to try and raise £100 for every mile! Thank you for reading this and considering support.
Love you Dad.
