I have completed 3 marathons in 2013 and 2014, all around 4:20 minutes, but I am fitter, but also older. My recent half marathon time was 1:46. Do you double and add 10 minutes? My time for my bib number 29732 will tell!
Whilst training for the London Marathon 2015, I was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma, a rare type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, but I am one of the lucky ones.
My Story
I was diagnosed, received chemo treatment and an autologous stem cell transplant, and all were completed in 2015. Autologous
means to transplant from one's self, so in effect, I was fortunate to be able to be my own donor. Not everyone however who needs a stem cell transplant can be their own donor. Many people need to find a matching willing person to be their donor so that they can have a chance of continued life.
For someone with blood cancer, a stem cell transplant could be their last chance of survival. Today, five people will start their search for a stranger to save their life. Anthony Nolan is the charity that makes lifesaving connections between people with blood
cancer and incredible strangers ready to donate their stem cells. It costs £40 to add each new potential donor to the Anthony Nolan stem cell register. Every new person on the register means another chance for someone to find their lifesaving match. By donating to our page, you will be giving more people with blood cancer the chance of a future. Thank you so much. Together, we can keep saving lives.
