Story
I would usually do any fundraising 'event' for the 'Mind' charity however, I wanted to change this event to try and assist the RFL Benevolent Fund with assisting with Mose Masoe's fundraising page. The details of my 'event' can be seen as the first comment in the comment section at the bottom of the page.
Mose Masoe is a Rugby League player who at the time of his injury played for Hull Kingston Rovers. He is a much liked character around the whole game of Rugby League and has played in Australia and the UK.
Playing in a friendly for Hull KR in Jan 2020 he suffered a career ending spinal injury and was given very little chance of ever walking again, however he has proven the doubters wrong and there are numerous displays on social media of his enthusiasm and determination to be able to walk and conduct simple tasks. Please see some of the links below.
With no guarantee of income or benefits once his current Hull KR contract expires at the end of 2021 the situation looks bleak, all of this with a young family including a newly born baby not long after his injury in 2020. For those that dont know, Rugby League is not a hugely rich sport and financial support for Mose will not be endless.

Because he is not a UK citizen, there is no Personal Independence Payment for him or Carer’s Allowance for wife Carissa.
Once his Hull KR contract ends this year at the end of 2021, the couple and their three children are likely to return to Australia – because he is a New Zealand citizen, he is not eligible for benefits there either.
And after learning his insurance payout will be a maximum of £50,000, which may be eaten up by the flight home, and with no future income assured, fund raising efforts for the big man are ongoing!
Hull KR head coach said: "At the end of the year, he’s out of contract, out of visa, with no training other than rugby league and no dexterity in his hands. Mose’s not sure how he’s going to provide for his family in the future, if he’s ever going to be able too. He may well have already peaked in his recovery.
We thought he’s just going to progress and everything’s going to be rosy. Well it isn’t. So we are grouping to help give him some options for what happens next.”
