We support undeserved young people to address social mobility and better lives

Story

Watching my wife MJ fly around the London Marathon course in October 2022 gave me an idea..................what if?

I last ran the Marathon in 1999, over half a life time ago and being inspired by MJ, I thought I'd dust off the old running shoes and see whether or not I could drag myself around 26.2 miles of London tarmac.

Gaining a place via my work ballot made me subsequently think about who I should run for.  I was sure that I wanted to run for a local charity and one that could really make a difference to local people who most need our help.

To that end, I have chose to raise money for "We Mind the Gap", this small but powerful charity started with a simple thought: ‘what opportunities would be created for our most disadvantaged young
people if they had access to the love, care, skills and support that most of us take for granted?’.

In recent years over 200 young people have moved from being prisoners of circumstance to pilots of their own lives – all with
confidence, choices, and aspirations for the future - as a result of taking part in WeMindThe Gap’s holistic programmes. And I want to allow more young people to have that same opportunity.

The charity runs three distinct programmes – WeDiscover (a virtual ten week programme for isolated young people aged 16 – 25), WeGrow (a six-month employment programme for under-served young people aged 18 – 25), and WeBelong (its alumni programme, which gives lifelong support and friendship to every one of our graduates) - across North Wales and the Northwest, both in person and virtually - and all graduates remain part of the WeMindTheGap family for life.

WeMindTheGap relies on the support of its fantastic communities and fundraisers to help raise life-changing money, and want to offer
this chance to more disadvantaged young people in more communities every year.
Every pound and penny raised will help them to provide a future for a young person that they never believed was possible – this really is social mobility in action.
