Story
Richard wrote that “luck and chance should not be part of the education system” and believed that no-one should be denied the chance to have an education, to access training and the opportunity to develop skills.
Having failed his 11 plus on two separate occasions he went on to achieve five degrees including a doctorate in physics. He credits his ‘second chance’ to the support of teachers and this experience drove his life’s work as an educationalist.
Richard dedicated his life to increasing access to education for all regardless of their background. SHINE is a cause that represents everything that Richard believed in and worked for as a teacher, college principal and advocate for education.
