Story
My name is Rich (a father of 2, husband, son, brother) and in September 2022 I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer. 6 months on and following surgery and Chemotherapy, I now sit here feeling lucky enough to be typing this story to help raise funds for Testicular Cancer UK, by doing the 3 Peaks Challenge in July with a group of supportive friends.
I will stick to the point with my story… I should have seen a doctor sooner! I had some strange unexplained pains that came and went, and took too long before visiting my GP. I write this as I hope to encourage people in a similar situation not to hesitate.
So, now that I'm in the period of active surveillance (regular scans and tests for the next 5 years) a group of friends and I are climbing the 3 biggest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) - all in 24 hours! It’ll be tough, and the training has already started, but I’m very excited to do this for Testicular Cancer UK charity.
Testicular Cancer UK are an awareness and support charity run by survivors in the UK. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer affecting young males between 15-45, so I can't stress enough the importance of regular checks - Don't be squeamish, educate, check and get to the doctor if unsure of anything - It could just save your life. Their website hosts a wealth of knowledge and videos on the subject - check it out: https://www.testicularcanceruk.com/.
Thank you for reading my story, and thanks in advance to the support of my friends and of course my family.
