Story
I am raising money for Macmillan because of my brother Michael.
In September 2012 suffering with a horrible cough he went to his doctors. Following tests he was sat down with our devoted sister on one side and a Macmillan nurse on the other and was given the devastating news he had a rare form of Lung Cancer and was advised he may only have 6 months to live.
The normal treatment for this type of cancer was to 'cut it out' but the tumours on his lungs were too big and there were too many for this to be an option. He began a course of Chemo-therapy which whilst at first showed positive signs of controlling his cancer, after 3 treatments and horrendous side effects the cancer fought back and started to grow again.
Michael in this time did not give up, he got married and travelled to some of the places he'd always wanted see and got involved in the Medical trials run by the Royal Marsden in Sutton to help find new cures for cancer for the future.
Michael lived on past his 6 months timeline, with all the support of his partner Peter, his siblings Chris, Kevin, Julie and myself and our extented familiy, all the time with the back up support of Macmillan.
Unfortunately, his cancer spread into his other organs and eventually into his bones. We lost Michael on the 30th November 2013 to this cruel disease, he was 9 days short of his 52nd birthday.
I don't want anyone to have to face cancer without someone by their side. So I am taking part in this bike ride to ensure Macmillan have the money they need to continue providing care and support to other families like they did for us and Michael.
I would be grateful for your help and support by sponsoring me.
Many thanks to you all
Richard.
