Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Its been nearly 3 years since we lost Jo to Cancer and she is missed so much by so many. Her warm smiley face would just light up any room.
This year, in memory of my Sister Jo, I plan to ride unsupported from Lands End To John O Groats using the SusTrans cycle Network.
https://www.sustrans.org.uk/national-cycle-network/lands-end-to-john-ogroats-lejog
This helps to keep me off the main and dangerous roads and gets me out into the country side using canal paths, bridleways, quiet lanes and disused railway lines. As such its a longer distance of 1200 miles and between 60 - 80 miles per day. Unsupported means that I will be carrying all my kit on my bike- that's tent, sleeping bag, cooker, clothes, tools....everything I'll need for nearly 3 weeks Food and beer I'll top up as I go.
I've always been a keen cyclist but <40 miles is the normal weekly ride distance and 70 miles is the furthest I've ridden in one go so although this is something I've always wanted to do and is something i'm really going to enjoy it'll certainly be no walk in the park!
Jo would have been 50 years old this year and I would have had great delight in reminding her how old she was; as siblings do, and every year on my birthday she would tell me I'm catching her up :-)
If i set out on the summer solstice, which seems a good day for an old hippy to start an adventure, the journey should finish on the day I catch her up in years.
It would be wonderful if I could raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK to help the amazing scientists find more treatments and cures for this awful disease.
I'll be cycling with my friend Jimmy who is riding in memory of his Mum who also had Cancer and was taken too early.
We also have a team page.
