Story
St George's Hospital Paediatric (Children's) Services were recently assessed as outstanding by the CQC. This is despite the pressures on the NHS and the facilities we have on site. In my department, we offer a comprehensive respiratory service for children with all forms of respiratory illness or condition. We support children with asthma working from primary care through to those with severe life threatening attacks. We have an innovative service for children with breathing pattern disorders supported by physiotherapy and psychology. We support infants and children requiring long term ventilation (mechanical breathing support) at home and those born with congenital lung conditions who may require surgery. We assess children with sleep disordered breathing and offer a range of other physiological measurement. We have developed new and innovative services but we need help in supporting new equipment and training for our staff. That said we are a happy and thriving team who work well together to improve outcomes for children.
Over the past three years, I have taken up a cycling challenge each year. It started with 100 kilometres, then 100 miles. In 2020 I managed the London Prudential ride in virtual (COVID) fashion and followed this up with a socially distanced London to Brighton (equivalent. In 2021sadly the Prudential is no more but the London to Brighton goes on ... and to supplement, I am cycling from Coast to Coast (280 km). Each pedal, each revolution of the wheel will drive me forwards in our goal to provide the best care for children with respiratory conditions in South West London and Surrey.
I am very grateful for any support you feel able to give.
Care, Healthier Lives. We are the charity that exists to support St Georges hospitals and the communities they serve. Every day, our work makes a real difference to patients, their families and friends and the staff who care for them.
