Story
So here we go again!
This time with a difference!
I am running this years Great North Run for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust with my daughter Jessica.
As many of you will already know my daughter Jess was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma at the age of 12 and relapsed at the age of 14.
I am delighted to tell you all that she is now 22 years old and well and has just completed her final year at Leeds University.
During the time when Jess was recovering from her treatment she came into contact with The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. They invited Jess along with other patients in recovery to join them on their adventure holidays. The trust and their volunteers encouraged Jess to sail, abseil, canoe, coaststeer and many other water sports. These holidays proved to be an important part of Jessica’s recovery. They helped Jess with her confidence and being able to socialise with others who had been through a similar experience was invaluable.
Jess now volunteers for the Trust and each year takes patients from all over the Country to the Adventure holidays and helps to ensure they are taken care of and have a great time.
If you can support us with whatever sum you are happy to donate then we would be most appreciative.
“The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is a national charity that supports young people aged 8-24 to rebuild their confidence after cancer. Cancer recovery is as much about what happens after treatment as during. Thats why when treatment ends, the Trusts work begins, as for many young people simply picking up where they left off before their diagnosis just isnt possible. Through sailing and outdoor adventure trips, young people can rebuild the confidence to get back into education and employment and to make new friends, all with the permission to have fun and enjoy being the young people they still are. Young people are supported long-term throughout the long, emotionally draining process of recovery as they have the opportunity to come back for trips year-on-year, with the possibility to volunteer, and inspire other young people like them, once they turn 18.”
