The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. They provide a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the coasts of the UK and RoI, as well as a seasonal lifeguard service on many of the busiest beaches in England and Wales. The RNLI is an independent charity and does not receive any funding from the UK government. They can’t save lives at sea without public support.Lifeboats need to be designed, built, fuelled and maintained, and their crews trained and equipped. Lifeguards also need training and equipment.

The Great North Swim on 4th September is a one-mile mass participation open water swim on Lake Windermere.  It is the only event of its kind in the UK; at the front of the race are some of the best swimmers in the world (including our Olympic medallists) with me and the mass participation field following shortly afterwards.  The event takes place at the heart of the beautiful Lake District and provides a real challenge to expert swimmers and amateurs alike.
