Story
Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page. We need to find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease. Our team, the MND Army are each completing a challenge of 7 challenges in 7 days. Rob Burrow, Leeds Rhinos rugby legend was diagnosed with this cruel disease in 2019. It killed Katrina's Grandma (Audrey), and Lorna and Richard's Dad (Chris). A friend is also living with MND. Our target of 777.77 is a tribute to Rob, whose shirt number was 7.
Katrina and Richard and Lorna's stories are below, along with example challenges. We are doing this in memory of loved ones, and because we don't want others to go through what Chris and Audrey went through. Thank you for anything you can donate.
We want to remove just one word from the sentence; "There is NOT a cure for MND."
Example challenges are below:
Richard and Lorna's story
"It's been 9 years since our Dad, Chris died. He was finally diagnosed with MND in 2012. Followed by the news that MND is always terminal, and that there is no effective treatment. Then he quickly lost his ability to walk unaided, and struggled to breathe and talk. The day before he died he had his feeding tube fitted. His weight had plummeted from 14 to 6 stone. All in less than 9 months. Our Mum, sister Lorna, Dad's sister Carole and I saw our Dad fight, yet he was still destroyed in front of us.
We've done a few events, and the support has been incredible. BUT, despite the incredible research from MNDA there is still no cure. We agree with Kevin Sinfield (lcreator of 7 in 7 and friend of Rob Burrow) that, "MND is the cruellest of cruel diseases". We will fight until MND is defeated.
Thank you for any support you can provide to help the fight.
Richard"
Katrina
"My Grandma (as I knew her), but also know to others as Mum and Audrey Hartigan passed away in 2012. She'd been unwell for a year or so; signs we put down to old age we now know were MND. Her diagnosis eventually came only a few months shy of us leaving us. The deterioration was nevertheless shattering.
Rich has done a fantastic job raising money in the name of MNDA, and we are so pleased he has invited us to join forces."
