Story
Fortunately, Sarah was referred to The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. Sarah received fantastic care from the doctors and nurses at the Marsden and benefited from the cutting edge research that the clinical teams carry out there; indeed Sarah is taking a drug which was developed as part of a recent clinical trial at the Marsden which significantly reduces risk of recurrence.
Those of you who know Sarah will know that she really hates running and has never run a half marathon before, so she is really putting herself through some discomfort to raise money for the Marsden. We will also be joined by my sister-in-law Becky who had until a few months ago had never laced up a pair of running trainers!
We are running The Royal Parks half marathon to raise money for the fantastic team at the Marsden to thank them for the incredible treatment and care Sarah received and to help fund new equipment and their groundbreaking research so that they can improve the lives and outcomes of people affected by cancer. 1 in 2 of us will receive a cancer diagnosis in our lifetimes and so this horrible disease impacts us all - the fantastic work the Marsden are doing will help to develop new treatments which will improve outcomes and hopefully eventually cure cancer.
Sarah's bravery, determination and equanimity throughout the last year has been a true inspiration and it is incredible that she is now running a half marathon - I am incredibly proud of her. I am also extremely grateful to Becky for all of her assistance and support over the last year and I'm delighted that she will be with us on race day so that we can all cross the finish line together.
I would be very grateful if you can please support our fundraising by chipping in a few quid - every little helps.
Thank you.
Rich
