Story
I started at GLAAD in 2008, right before President Obama was elected. That change in the White House opened the door to immense opportunities for LGBTQ advocates and our GLAAD team to create lasting change - from marriage equality to fighting against trans discrimination and violence.
Under the Biden Administration, the opportunity has returned and my colleagues and I are ready to seize it. We must push for the Equality Act and the end of the ban on trans military service. Beyond policies and laws, we must use this moment to create an America where every LGBTQ young person feels good about who they are, where LGBTQ parents and their children are valued, and where LGBTQ acceptance is a national norm. It's possible. GLAAD's 2021 programs and plans will move us there.
GLAAD's work to move culture forward using the power of media reaches LGBTQ people everywhere with stories of hope (anyone watch Disclosure on Netflix?). Our Hollywood and celebrity work reached LGBTQ youth isolating at home during COVID-19 with affirmation. Our digital campaigns result in real action (The Hallmark Channel pulling a gay ad, reinstating a gay ad, and now airing the sweetest gay holiday film). We hold anti-LGBTQ groups, laws, and politicians accountable (fact checking Melania Trump when she claimed her hubby was our #1 ally).
Any level of donation truly makes a difference. We run large, national campaigns with a small and mighty team.
GLAAD's Board of Directors has launched a Leadership Fund that will match all contributions to the organization now through December 31st.
