Eating disorders are serious mental illnesses. Currently sufferers face an average wait of three and a half years for specialist treatment. Eating disorders can cause serious harm and may be fatal anorexia has the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses. But even though they are serious illnesses, eating disorders are treatable.
Beat knows that the sooner someone gets help, the faster they can recover, lessening the impact on their life, family and future. Beat provides training to help teachers and GPs spot the early signs and symptoms of an eating disorder and empowers them with the knowledge to support someone who is unwell. Beats essential Helplines and online support groups give sufferers and their loved ones a place to feel listened to and supported. This is why I am helping Do Digital raise enough money to pay for Beat to run 1 course, to train up to 20 school-based professionals, and send out communications to all GP practices in our local area.
