Story
This year I will be running the 2022 TCS London Marathon on behalf of the amazing charity - Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
This incredible charity train dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds they would otherwise miss – sounds that many people take for granted like the doorbell, alarm clock and even danger signals like the fire alarm.
Being aware of these sounds – thanks to a hearing dog – makes a real difference to deaf people’s lives, and can even save them.
But these amazing dogs can do so much more than alert their recipient to sounds.
Deafness can be a very isolating disability. A hearing dog can give a deaf person a newfound sense of independence and confidence.
I have been extremely fortunate to witness the impact this incredible charity can have on a person. My Dad (Tony Chalk) was hard of hearing and was matched with a beautiful Harrier Hound called Murphy. For years Dad, Mum and Murphy would go on adventures together. Murphy was able to help my Dad in so many ways to feel completely connected with the world around him. After Murphy retired, The beautiful Cockerpoo Isaac came into the families life. Isaac helped Dad again and truly was his best mate!! Sadly my Dad passed away in May 2021, leaving Isaac behind to continue to help Mum.
I know it would mean everything to my Dad to know that as a family we continue to want to give back to this incredible charity and help to raise the vital funds needed to towards training another puppy.
Training for the marathon is already well underway and I will continue to work hard to prepare myself and hopefully do my Dad proud.
Every penny raised will go to the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
Thank you in advance for your support 🙏
