On the 13th May 2019 Welicar Educational Centre opened its doors for the first time offering a free primary education to children of the Nairobi slums. Funded by donations and child sponsorship the school is on a plot where the landlord charges a monthly rent. Now the landlord has decided he wants to sell the land and will be putting it on the open market.
He has given the school the first option of buying it for well below the market price but it's money they just don't have.
Welicar's founder and Director Elisha Ooga says "Welicar is committed to empowering the slums forgotten children to make a better life for themselves. Therefore without the school, the children would have no choice other than to turn to street life and undesirable and unhealthy ways of acquiring a little money to buy food and water. Please help us save our school!!!"
