Story
Thank you for visiting my Race for Life sponsorship page!
Myself and the lovely Helen Yerbury will be raising money for Cancer Research on the 22nd May in Regent's Park, followed by a tactical ice cream, all for a good cause!
A little bit about me....
I'm essentially hopeless at writing this sort of thing, but I thought you might like to know why I am doing the Race For Life.
In May 2009 I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer which had already spread to my Liver. I had very little in the way of symptoms and only went to the doctor because I thought I had something else entirely. Needless to say, as with anyone who gets a Cancer diagnosis, it was an overwhelming shock.
Just one week later, I had a bowel resection which succesfully removed all of the Cancer from that area, but my Liver is unfortunately in a far less happy state. I have been having Chemo since June 2009 and it's a very long haul. I am lucky in many ways though....
Firstly I have the most amazing friends and family, who have since day one been the most supportive, loving and thoughtful friends and family anyone could wish for. So many people have done things, little and big, that have made me both amazingly happy and had me in tears all at the same time, just because I never thought people could care so much. You all know hopefully who you are, and everyday I smile knowing that I am staying this strong because of you.
I'm also very lucky as so far, despite the ops, the drama and the chemo, I feel surprisingly well and have been able to carry on living my life pretty much as before. I'm trying to have as much fun as is physically possible and live life to the full. When things like this happen, it doesn't just make you realise what is actually important in the grand scheme of things, it makes you appreciate every good thing in your life so much more.
My fight, along with those of thousands of others, isn't over by a long way. Everyday is a fight to stay positive and hopeful. Please give generously, as every penny raised could really save someone's life.
