Race for Life Southampton (5k) 2013 · 14 July 2013 ·
My sister and I first signed up for Race for Life in the beginning of 2009. Mum was in remission from Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and life after treatment had returned to normal. And then an infection hit. After the initial diagnosis Mum had selflessly signed up for a clinical trial - trialling new drugs in the hope that they would help others suffering like her. They worked fantastically - but also knocked out her entire immune system. In May that year Mum suffered a chest infection, which she seemed to beat but then we were told the cancer had returned and spread to her spine and brain. Exactly one week later she left this life and started her new one in Heaven.
Lise and I raised an astonishing £1500 between us the following month when we ran in her memory. Following that generosity of friends and loved ones we haven't actively sought sponsorship since but have completed the race each year as a commemorative act. But the slogan this year has fired me up to help the fight against this cruel and evil disease. Please..donate if you can..no matter how much; every penny really does count. Thank you.
love Sarah xx
