We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Thank you for visiting my Race for Life sponsorship page. Once again I shall be taking part in the Race at Margate on 5th July, in memory of my dear Mum and Dad, both of whom I lost to cancer in 2007, within 3 months of each other.  This year I am also doing R4L for my cousin, Len, who has been battling cancer for some time.  Thanks to the skills of the doctors treating him and the work of such organisations as Cancer Research UK, he is fighting back and going from strength to strength.  Please dig deep and let's help others.

If you would like to sponsor me online, it’s quick, easy and totally secure.  However, please be aware that online sponsorship money is collected before the race takes place so if, for any reason, I am unable to participate, you will nonetheless have paid sponsor money.  If you would prefer to sponsor me offline, I have plenty of forms!!

Events like Race for Life are vital in funding Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. By sponsoring me now you can help more people survive cancer.

Gift Aid it!

If you are a UK taxpayer, please remember to tick the Gift Aid box when donating so that an extra 25%, plus a 3% supplement, can be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Every pound you donate really does make a difference – so please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support – Together we will beat cancer.

Update

Having begun the Race near the front of the walkers, we finished it very near to the back - thanks to a detour along the beach at Botany Bay in search of a loo!!  That means that, in effect, we probably did closer to 6Km, rather than 5Km.

I shall never forget the looks on the faces of the people sunbathing on the beach as they saw us striding along with our race numbers on, thinking that they had set up in totally the wrong place and assuming that their peaceful day on the beach was about to be interrupted by 1,600 women on the Race for Life route.

Worse still, my daughter was a marshall at the Race and later informed me that our detour had been broadcast across all the walkie-talkies, so everyone knew.  Next year we're doing the Race in disguise!

Still, we made it and are still laughing.  Thanks for all the sponsorship.
