Story
Hazel and I are walking / jogging again to help more people beat cancer. We're being brave and doing 10k this year! We're hoping the weather will be kind to us this time!
By the time you get to my (not very old!) age, it's practically impossible not to have been touched by cancer. When I was in my early 20's I always thought it was a disease of the older generation; I wouldn't have to worry about it until I hit middle age(!) ~ that it wouldn't affect me till then. I was brought down to earth with the sharp shock of the loss of my Uncle Alec to cancer ~ which opened my eyes. I realise now I was incredibley lucky to get to my 20's before the disease touched my life. Hazel wasn't as fortunate; she lost her Granddad so much earlier in her life, which is so often the case.
Nowadays, I know so many more people who were touched by cancer ~ whether directly or otherwise; the ripples of the disease stretch far and wide. The good news is that I know those people who were directly affected by the disease ~ because they survived it.
