Fundraising for Cancer Research UK
Thank you for visiting my Race for Life sponsorship page.
I am running the Race for Life in the Lake District on 21 June 2009 (Father's Day) in memory of my Dad who I lost to lung cancer.
As those of you who know me well will appreciate, I am not really built for running and am usually only prepared to indulge in it when I know that its almost closing time and there is a pint waiting. But this seemed like a worthy cause and, if nothing else, it will give the spectators a laugh watching me drag myself round the course...
So if you could dig deep to ease the pain of my self torture I would be really grateful. Knowing that people are paying for me to punish myself will make it so much easier to motivate myself to train!!
Thank You!
Training Update - 27 April 2009 Well Jess the Springer is enjoying the training and I am sort of learning to embrace my inner runner...I have progressed to running more than walking on my training sessions. Hey, everyone has to start somewhere. I must confess that my usual training ground - the fabulous National Trust land at Blackdown, Haslemere - is a little hilly and, when faced with a large hill, I do tend to slow down a little (unless of course it is downhill when Jess and I take the opportunity to up the pace). I am hopeful that I will be able to get round the 5km on 21 June without needing medical assistance...
Training Update - 12 June 2009 Taking a tip from the top athletes I took myself off to training camp in Europe last week - Southern Italy to be precise. OK - I didn't actually do any running, but a girl can peak too soon you know. I did do a bit of swimming in the sea and undertook some sun therapy. And most importantly I have significantly replenished my carbohydrate stocks - it is unlikely given the quantity of pasta consumed that I will run out of energy half way round...Well its the final countdown to the big day. I have kept up my training regime at home through rain and sunshine (Jess is no fairweather personal trainer) and I think I might make it round the course without collapsing although make no promises about how quickly I will do it! My osteopath says I really shouldn't be running, what with my wonky skeletal set up (charming...) but what does he know?! I think my back will hold out just long enough to get me round. Am sure St John's Ambulance will have a stretcher waiting...Wish me luck! I promise photographic evidence will be produced (oh dear...)
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me so far. Your generosity has been overwhelming. It is a great cause that I know has touched many of your lives in one way or another, so I am determined to keep up the jogging and keep on fundraising!
Lots of Love
Jude (and Jess) xxx
