Story

When my brother sent me a clipping from a book...

Exactly 200 years ago at Warwick racecourse, a professional pedestrian known as ‘Jones of Oxford’, walked 100 miles around our track in 24 hours (in two lots of 12 hours). Apparently 10,000 people came to watch his attempt, which he achieved with four minutes to spare.

Immediately I was drawn to the challenge. Now I do quite a lot of endurance events for my own pleasure, but walking 125 laps around a racetrack is going to need the Rocky soundtrack on repeat and a quite a bit of mental focus, as well as a good amount of fitness, and also a reason or purpose, to keep me moving. I am dedicating in the main part two days, a lot of sweat and somewhere in the region of 150 thousand steps. I ask for and hope you choose to support me and the rainbow trust. 🌈.  And with success, maybe I can also be classified as a professional pedestrian. Renamed, Rene of Warwick. And we can give certain people access to the help they need through this charity from your support and donations.

Rainbow Trust Children's Charity enables families who have a child with a life threatening illness to make the most of precious time together; providing expert practical and emotional support, where they need it, for as long as it is needed. £23 will provide one hour of care, enough time to entertain a seriously ill child so that their parents can have a break.

I have slightly changed the format of the walk and I will be leaving my house at 7am on Monday the 13th may and will be walking along the oxford and grand union canals to get to Warwick. I will then be walking for three days around the racecourse before walking back along the canals to home. A distance of 200 miles but split over 5 days. It’s still over one and a half marathons a day consecutively for five days. Approximately 10 hours a day. My mind is ready, I just hope my body is up to it. Either way, I’ll give it my best shot.
