Story
After testing positive for Covid-19 Jackie Palmer passed away peacefully in hospital on the 17th January 2021, with Ray, Abby and Bradley by her side.
Jackie was someone who loved nothing more than taking care of the people in her life, a happy smiling friend to everyone who was so thoughtful and easy to be around, people gravitated towards her. As such there were many who she considered good friends and family - there was no such thing as ‘too many’. She could make the smallest occasion a get-together and although cooking wasn’t her strong point there was always plenty of space at the table (or in the marquee!) for everyone, and of course, a glass (or bottle) of wine, gin, a beer... and often a takeaway when she forgot the food was in the oven!
In her final hours she made sure to let us know that all the staff at Broomfield hospital had been great with her, and we experienced nothing but kindness and professionalism in the hours we were there. We can’t thank them enough for giving us the opportunity to be together one final time and to know that she was not alone at the end, and so it seems only fitting that we try to take care of the people who done absolutely everything they could for Jackie, just as she would have.
We do and will continue to miss and love her every day, but she was someone who lived in the present and we intend to do the same.
When it is safe to do so, we will have a big celebration of Jackie, who meant so much to so many people. We fully intend to drink and dance with everyone who had their lives made better by her and yes, Vengaboys will be played of course!
Until then keep safe and thank you for your donation no matter how big or small in memory of Jackie. The funds will be used to directly support the doctors and nurses on the Covid wards at Broomfield and the other hospitals in the area x
