We fund long-term, sustainable research to find a cure for brain tumours

Story

My wonderful, loving, kind and generous partner, Gavin, very recently lost his life to a brain tumour, just weeks before his 40th birthday.

He battled his cancer for over ten years with a spirit and determination like no other, encountering three surgeries, multiple rounds of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, working so very hard to return to good health and incredible fitness after each operation or treatment. My heart is broken beyond repair as are the hearts of his children, family and friends.

To remember our gorgeous Gavin, and to help extend the lives of others suffering with brain tumours, we’re fundraising for the charity Brain Tumour Research. They’re the only charity specifically focused on researching brain tumours and ultimately striving to find a cure.

Brain cancer ends the lives of more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Yet historically, only 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. Therefore fundraising for this specific cancer is of the utmost importance.

In some small yet significant way, we hope our fundraising efforts will honour Gav: my love, a father, a son, grandson, step son, a brother, nephew, a soon-to-be Uncle, a cousin and friend to so many. By celebrating his 39 years of life and remembering him we are helping to save the lives of others.

Gav’s motto of ‘never give up’ was his absolute strength in fighting this disease for so many years. We’d love to keep his legacy alive by encouraging other brain cancer patients, and indeed anyone going through a terrible illness, to never give up, because Gav taught us that life and love are worth fighting for.

If you are able to donate something, anything, in loving memory of Gavin, and to support children and adults overcome this life-limiting illness, Gavin’s family and I would like to say a heartfelt thank you a million times over.

With much love and gratitude,

Zoe x
