Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my page.
In 2012 at the age of 41 my beautiful Sister Lisa Almond died from bowel cancer that had spread to her liver, lungs, spine and brain.
Bowel cancer is the UK's second biggest cause of cancer deaths. Around 1 in 18 people will get bowel cancer and of the 100 people diagnosed each day, almost half will die. But in 90% of cases it could be treated successfully if diagnosed early which is why raising awareness is so important.
Diagnosed at the age of 37, she endured chemotherapy, radiotherapy, major surgery, more chemotherapy, more surgery, followed by various treatments for problems she was left with as a result of the illness and treatments.
After only a couple of years remission, in summer 2010 worst fears were confirmed that the cancer had returned but this time she was told it was incurable. Chemotherapy failed to slow down the disease and in February 2012 Lisa died.
From the moment Lisa was diagnosed right up to the last few months of her life, she was a patient voice for Beating Bowel Cancer, helping other sufferers come to terms with their diagnosis and also raising awareness of the disease (particularly in young people) by means of newspaper and magazine articles and she also appeared in radio and tv interviews.
Please help me continue the amazing work that Beating Bowel Cancer do raising awareness of the symptoms of this disease to ensure early diagnosis that saves lives.
Thank you
Beckie xx
