Update on 2nd March 2021:
Following on from the recent announcements we are delighted to be able to say that the date for this walk will now be 10th April 2021! We have been continuing with our training and the new few weeks will see the training really ramp up as we prepare to finally undertake this challenge! It's as exciting as it is daunting but we are all determined and excited to get it completed and raise loads of money for such a fantastic cause.
We just want to say thank you again to everyone who has donated so far - you are all amazing and the support is appreciated more than you know. Red Hot Chilli Steppers - let's do this!! :-) xx
Update on 2nd January 2021:
Due to the current restrictions of being in Tier 4 we are having to postpone the date of the walk until we go back to Tier 3 and are allowed to exercise outside in groups of 6. We will continue training and raising money for this fantastic cause and will set a new date as soon as we can. Thanks to every single person who has donated so far, it means the world to us xx
Our lovely friend Kelly was diagnosed this summer with stage three breast cancer. She’s due to have her last chemotherapy session in November, and by then Kelly would have sat through around 24 hours of treatment.
Despite the brutal side effects of the chemotherapy, Kelly remains as positive as ever and in between telling everyone to feel their boobs has said that seeing friends raise money for cancer charities is a huge positive to come from her diagnosis…
So we decided it’s our turn.
On 3 January 2021 (lockdown restrictions permitting!) Amy, Christie, Donna, Jenny, Kerrie, Lisa, Louisa, Louise, Nikki, Sarah G, Sarah H, Susan and Tracy are going to walk 24 miles, one for every hour that Kelly has been hooked up to chemo.
Sadly, it’s not just Kel. Most of us have seen people we love affected by cancer and we’ll be thinking of them all in this fundraising event.
Will you sponsor us?
We asked Kelly to choose the charity that she’d like us to raise money for and she’s chosen Cancer Hair Care. Cancer Hair Care is a charity set up to offer free expert advice and support on all aspects of hair loss, before, during and after cancer treatments, as well as to people with non-cancer related hair loss. They have a dedicated team of Cancer Hair Care Specialists and Advisors. The team is a mixture of experts in their field and people who have experienced hair loss and cancer treatment first-hand. They promote and protect the physical and mental health of an individual with illness and hair loss by providing support, education and practical advice. They are the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting people throughout their entire hair loss journey.
As well as an amazing website providing so much support and guidance and tutorials, they have a Caring Hair Studio in Stevenage which offers services from how to tie headwear and how to apply eyelashes and brow makeup, to looking after your scalp. They provide caring, expert, age appropriate services for children and teenagers. They also provide free packs in the post to adults, teenagers and children, containing things like hair loss scarves and headwear, eyelashes, eyebrow make up and stencils and hair loss dolls for children.
They are a small independent charity doing wonderful things and will be so grateful for your support.
