Story
After last years “RED” ice swims I’m fairly sure I decided not to do it again. I’m not great at planning and so ended up doing a lot of cold windy dips in the pitch dark! However... having met so many inspiring people this year, from all walks of life, who have grown to embrace the cold for their own joy, I decided to do it again. It’s been wonderful to see the power of open water swimming (and dipping!) hit a rich vein of enthusiasm in a far wider, diverse community.
The wellbeing that can be derived from embracing cold swims is enormous - and I’m eternally grateful to be able to do this - to have a strong mind and body capable to experience it. Some people are not there yet - which is why this initiative from Mind and Red January is so powerful. Taking about mental health is still a taboo and funding across the UK is tragically inadequate.
Embracing new physical experiences, joyful communities and getting outside into nature can really make profound life changes - but for some people this is impossible without professional help - like Mind.
Thank you for your support - it means the world to me but more importantly it really can help those less fortunate navigate a path towards a brighter future.
Join me for a dip. Just show up - that’s what counts.

This January, the RED community will be challenging themselves to get active every day. Whether running, swimming, cycling or choosing a favourite fitness activity, REDers will be going the extra mile to support themselves and others.Their fitness and fundraising efforts combined with your generosity will help continue Minds life-changing work, ensuring no-one has to face a mental health problem alone. Thank you.
