Story
Last January I decided to join a running club. I hadn’t been for a run for about 20 years so the prospect was daunting to say the least. A year later I can honestly say that it was one of the best things I’ve ever done.
There are health benefits of course, but more importantly, I’ve experienced huge social and mental health benefits. I’ve been welcomed with open arms by the running community, I’ve formed friendships and I’ve managed my stress levels amazingly well during some difficult times.
In 2019 I lost a friend and colleague to suicide. It came totally out of the blue and it shook me to the core. It really hit home how we have no idea what our fellow humans struggle with every day.
It is vital that we talk about mental health and make it ok to not be ok. Only then can we help ourselves and each other.
So this January, I’m joining the RED community and pledging to get active every day, mainly through running, in aid of Suffolk Mind. I want to help continue Minds life-changing work, ensuring no-one has to face a mental health problem alone.
Thank you for your support.
