BUPA Great North Run 2009 · 20 September 2009 ·
So, somehow Dad has roped me into running the Great North Run again, despite memories being all too raw of being wrapped up in foil and collapsing on the finish line after my 3rd year at Uni eating takeaways and drinking red wine.
At time of writing, Dad (my so-called running mate) is currently hobbling around with a broken big toe and damage to the tendons in his knee. The fact that he was even able to incur said injuries whilst playing five-a-side football as if he was still 21 is really a godsend considering this time last year, Dad couldn't even run for a ball in a short kick about at a barbecue.
Last year he was diagnosed with not only Diabetes but chronic Heart Disease and underwent an operation which would hopefully change his life. At this time, I knew very little about Heart Disease, even though it is the UK biggest killer. It is thanks to the incredible advancements in operating techniques, research, education and care that the British Heart Foundation funds that Dad is now able to get on with his life again.
Please dig deep to help fund further research, everyone knows someone who has died far too young from a heart attack, stroke or been debilitated by other conditions - many of which are so preventable.
Huge thanks to all who sponsor me,
Becky xxx
