Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!!
My name is Rebecca for those of you who don't know me! For those of you that do know me you know that to me, my family is my world. In this modern time many of you know how it feels to be affected by cancer and most people have a personal story to tell or can relate in some way. For those that don't you are truly blessed. My Granny was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and my Grandad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year and, while it has been a tough journey for both of them that is far from over yet, I am so proud of them and their continued positivity. I'm also proud of us as a family as we have had to pull together and support each other in this tough time and it has truly shown to me how much we really love each other. And that is what drives me to even think of doing this - love for my family and a respect for everyone else out there who is battling this in their own families.
I started running a couple of years ago and, although I have raced, I have never done a full marathon. But I think that if my Granny can go through breast cancer and my Grandad can go through pancreatic cancer, major operations and continue to amaze doctors at 74 with his recovery then I sure as hell can run over 26 miles in aid of a charity to help!!
So I will be participating in the Farnham Pilgrim Marathon in Surrey on the 18th of September. It's a challenging, hilly marathon which incorporates much of the old pilgrim trails through the North Downs and I am very excited to be taking part! I will be running for Pancreatic Cancer UK, a fantastic charity which helps raise awareness and fund vital research into early detection and better treatments. Pancreatic cancer is a particularly aggressive form of cancer that is very hard to detect as once symptoms occur the cancer is usually at an advanced stage. Please help raise money for this fantastic cause and help make a difference to my Grandad and over 7000 people diagnosed every year in the UK.
Thank you so much for your time and please just give what you can to help, it all does no matter how small :D Add me as a friend on facebook to follow my training progress (I will be posting on there) or on www.dailymile.com (just search the crawley area I'm the only Rebecca!) you will find my detailed training and how it's going!
Much love x
