Story
We are taking on the challenge in September to walk 24 peaks (all over 2,400 foot high) in the Lake District in a target trekking time of 24 hours to raise money for St. Richards Hospice in Worcester.
Day 1 will see us climb 9 peaks and walk 28km; day 2 will see us climb the remaining 15 peaks and walk 23km. While this is something that we will both enjoy and is in an area that we both love, it will undoubtedly be a significant challenge walking those distances (and up and down the various peaks) in two consecutive days.
So why are we taking on this challenge? Throughout the early months of 2014 the wonderful staff at St Richards Hospice provided a very close family friend and his family with love, care and attention at a time when it was very much needed. Pete Thomas was a true gentleman and througout his long battle with cancer, he remained positive and supportive. No matter how tough his treatment was at that time, he would always make us feel special and was keen to know what we had been up to. We shared many happy evenings and family events together as well as watching his beloved Worcester Warriors at Sixways.
Pete's kindness never faded and we want to try and raise as much money as possible for the wonderful staff at St Richards Hospice. This will enable them to continue to provide the medical expertise and devotion to their patients and families during very difficult times.
As we tick off each of the peaks on our challenge and as our legs get heavier, and our lungs are burning, there is that memory of one very special person that will remind us why we are doing this.
