Story

Jay is my big brother and my coach, he would always call me and ask how my running was going, give me tips and advice and then eventually we even got the opportunity to train together. I remember when we were running round the Hobbucks and we promised that we would do the 2013 Robin Hood half marathon together just as he had done in 2001.

Sadly, I wont get the privilege of crossing the finish line with my big brother as Jay passed away in November 2012 due to a heart condition. Since then, me and my immediate family have also received what is presumed to be the same diagnosis of Long QT Syndrome.

For a family that love each other so much, I can't begin to describe the effect this has had on us however I can say that we're determined to preserve the enthusiasm, energy and pure joy that us and Jay have always shared. As such I am going to keep my promise to Jay and if I can't do it with him then I'm just going to have to do it for him and for the rest of us to keep our big hearts ticking!

Each week at least twelve young people in the UK die suddenly as a result of undiagnosed heart conditions. At Cardiac Risk In the Young we aim to save young lives & to help those affected by the sudden cardiac death. We do this by providing support, information & screening those affected.
