Story
On Sunday July 10th, I am hoping to take part in my first ever triathlon to raise money for Brain Tumour Research UK. Southend Triathlon @triathlonsouth is a sprint race: 750m open water swim, 20km bike and a 5k run. I will join in as one of the many beginners hoping to complete all three disciplines rather than compete!
Taking part in a triathlon has been a bucket list ambition for a few years, but it has taken the milestone of reaching the same age as when my mother passed away for me to take it up seriously. As milestones go it is an odd one for me as, though she has not been with me for 40 years, she continued to signpost my life. Now I will be in unchartered territory of living a life beyond hers. I want to take this year to celebrate living a good life, making the most of what we have and the time that we have together.
So why a triathlon? Well, I love cycling & swimming & used to run: I just haven’t done all 3 one after the other! The most challenging part for me has been returning to fitness as a a tear in my hip labrum put a halt to running 4 years ago. However, time has managed the injury so, with a lot of fitness guidance over the last three months from Tony Bull @platinumptgym & fantastic treatment by Steph Gammel @osteo_steph, I find myself as fit as I’ve ever been so bring it on!
I would love your support and would be genuinely grateful for any donations to Brain Tumour Research via my Just Giving Page. Anything you can spare will support important research into finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. At the time my mother was diagnosed April 1982, treatment was limited due to the size and type of cancer. She died three months later devastaing our family. I hope that the research brings progress in treatment, allowing more time to be spent with loved ones.
