Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Rebecca and I have a daughter who was born with Lamellar Ichthyosis.
Lamellar ichthyosis is
I am doing a skydiving jump on the 17/09/2010 to raise money for the Ichthyosis support group.
Looking after a child with any kind of Ichthyosis is very hard, and i give alot of my thanks to my mum and dad for helping me though the worst times, and my boyfriend Andy.
Reanna lost her right eye due to her skin condition 4 years ago and that day was the worst day in my life, so I hope to raise some money just to help find a cure for all the people out there with ichthyosis. And all the brave mothers/fathers who help there little ones every single day.
With Lamellar ichthyosis the skin cells reproduce at a normal rate, but they don’t shed as quickly as they should, and again produce a build-up of scaley skin. There currently is no cure for ichthyosis; only treatments. Caring for ichthyosis is very labor-intensive. It means spending lots of hours every week bathing, scrubbing the skin in an effort to shed some of the scales, putting on creams to help moisturize and exfoliate....it's a never-ending battle, where you can never quite seem to get the upper hand. Caring for ichthyosis is as much about looking good as feeling good. For people with severe forms of ichthyosis, the goal (which is tough to achieve), is two-fold: make the skin look "normal" enough that people on the street don't stare, call you names, or always ask you what's wrong with you, and secondly to make the skin feel good, so that your skin doesn't make it painful to move, impair your hearing or effect your eyesight.
