We help families find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them

Story

When I was eight years old my best friend was diagnosed with Leukaemia. I of course had never heard of this disease and struggled to understand the seriousness of what was going on. Even so, I could only understand the health related part of what she was going through and not the impact of cancer on her life and the life of her family beyond her health.

She was supported by CLIC Sargent, which was a fairly new charity at the time. It made a huge difference to their lives. Our class decided then, to do a sponsored silence to raise money for CLIC Sargent. We were 8 years old and such a thing must have seemed interminable to our parents and teachers. It took us 45 minutes to be quiet for 5 minutes!

This was my first experience of fundraising. For all these reasons this charity has a very special place in my heart. Happily my friend went on to recover.

So in recognition of that experience, and the beginning of a new decade which I hope will see many further advances in the the treatment of and quality of living for people with cancer and their families, this World Cancer Day I will be shaving my head to raise money!

Please please do all you can to help me reach this fundraising goal! I will be doing this in a public place so you can all come and watch! I’ll post updates on this page about what else will be happening. My hair hasn’t been cut for at least two years and it’s remains will be going to the Princess Trust to help make wigs for those who may or want or need them.
