Story
The University of Edinburgh Nursing Society members and friends are taking part in a sponsored walk on Sunday 24th October 2021, to raise money for BEAT.
Around 1.25 MILLION people in the UK have an Eating Disorder. Eating disorders do not discriminate; they can and do affect everyone. During the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for Eating Disorder services reached a crisis point. As a result, demand for BEAT's support services increased by 134%.
Eating Disorders are devastating, and can be deadly, but with the right treatment and support, recovery is possible. The sooner someone starts treatment, the better their chance of recovery. The more conversations we can start, the more awareness we can make, the more money we can raise, and the more people we can support. As a society, we are committed to BEAT and are passionate to do all we can to help.
BEAT are the UK's leading Eating Disorder Charity. BEAT aim to end the pain and suffering of eating disorders amongst sufferers and their families and friends. BEAT constantly campaign for more funding and better education, for both members of the public and professionals, surrounding eating disorders. Each year, BEAT's work saves lives.
Society members and friends can choose what distance they walk, which ranges from 5K up to a full marathon!
We are so grateful for any donations, no matter how big or small, and encourage everyone to read more about BEAT's amazing work here: https://www.beateatingdisorders.org.uk/
