When our twins were born in December 2017, Ryan, who was the first born, went into shock and needed resuscitated. He was left without oxygen for a period of time and it was explained to us that he could have brain damage. Not only that but he also suffered a bleed on the brain.
What followed was a three week stay in the Special Care Baby Unit with Ryan very poorly and fighting for his life. I’m pleased to say he battled and won that fight but still needs regular ongoing checkups and development checks to check for any lasting long term damage. We’re pleased to say he’s doing everything he should be and showing no effects of the traumas he’s been through in his short life.
We as a family firmly believe that if it hadn’t been for love, care and affection that he was shown by everyone associated with the SCBU, he wouldn’t have made it.
From that point onwards we decided to become supporters of Tiny Lives who are the charity that support the unit and the family’s impacted who’s babies need specialist treatment. Please give anything you can to help us support this wonderful charity who have done so much for us and many other families. We can never repay them for what they did but we can help them to support other parents in similar positions.
Tiny Lives and the Special Care Baby Unit perform miracles every day. 💙
Edit: Ryan was discharged from his consultants care in January 2019 following two years of constant mental and physical development checks. He continues to show no ill effects of what he went through. Our miracle baby 💙
