Story
There is somewhat of an odd tradition forming in our family with people deciding to run marathons on their 40th birthday. I have decided to follow suit, and at the same time raise money for a good cause.
In September 2021 a good friend and colleague of mine died by suicide. Naomi was just 28 and one of the most beautiful people and talented musicians I have ever had the honour of meeting. This charity was one that she supported, as well as many others as she was someone who gave herself completely to help others and often felt guilty for the privileged life many of us take for granted.
I will be running with her in mind, thinking of all of the special birthdays that she won’t get to have.
The Russ Devereux Headlight Project was founded in memory of Russell Devereux by his wife Catherine. Russ tragically died by suicide on 6 May 2018 age 41 leaving behind three young children. The aim of the project is to work with children, delivering emotional resilience programmes in schools. The Project also offers play therapy for children and one to one counselling for both children and adults and has a particular focus on helping families bereaved by suicide.
