Story

I am attempting my first marathon in June for Motor Neurone Disease Association in memory of my piano teacher and would be very grateful for any pennies (pounds) for it.  I can no longer imagine life without running.  I love the feeling of total freedom on a run, especially in the wild scenery of the lakes.  After battling through snow, hail and mud deeper than imaginable over the winter, I thought I’d set myself a new challenge and complete a marathon this year.  The thought of pounding the streets for 26 miles filled me with a little dread, but any excuse to spend a day in the Lakes is a decent one.  So, Coniston marathon fitted the bill perfectly.

Why raise for MNDA, I hear you ask- I will never forget the sinking feeling when I found out Gareth had MND.  Music plays a huge part in my life and Gareth was my childhood inspiration.  MND attacks the motor neurones which means messages gradually stop reaching muscles.  Moreover, it is not yet curable.  The feeling of helplessness was only conquered by asking what I could do to make some kind of difference.  MNDA provides that hope.  They are the only national charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland for MND and fund research into cures, fight for better care for MND sufferers and provide support needed to families affected by this debilitating disease.  I can’t think of a better way to raise money for one of the most wonderful and inspirational men I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing than by running my heart out!

So here I am, lacing up the shoes and heading for hills.

I'm very grateful for your support and will be thinking of every single donation to motivate me to the finish line.
