Story
Hi everyone! On 16 October I’ll be taking part in Run Heaton Park to raise money for Manchester Action on Street Health. MASH is an amazing local charity providing non-judgemental support to women involved in sex work, supporting them to experience better health, safety and emotional wellbeing. The team supports women via the drop-in centre and a mobile van (a specially adapted camper van which is taken out onto the streets late at night). I was compelled to volunteer at MASH having lived in the Cheetham Hill area in the heart of the red light district up until earlier this year. Witnessing first-hand the distressing and dangerous situations the women have to deal with on a daily basis made me to want to do something to help. One night on a late walk home from Manchester City Centre I saw the MASH van parked up and providing assistance and was immediately intrigued. When I arrived home I Googled the charity, applied to volunteer and I’ve been working at the drop in ever since! Due to the cost of living crisis more and more women are now in need of the vital services provided so any donations are really gratefully received.
Women say;"Ive never had a family of my own. MASH have been my mum and dad. I have been able to speak to MASH about things that I have never been able to tell anyone else.
Thank you for your kind donations. It really gives me motivation and goes towards an amazing cause. Wish me luck!
