Story
I'm running the 2022 TCS London Marathon as part of #teambowelcancer. They are the UK's leading bowel cancer charity. They're determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer.Your support will help stop people dying of bowel cancer by funding vital services and lifesaving research.
Having never run a marathon before I'm rather nervous about the preparation and challenge but am excited about the opportunity to both raise funds and awareness for this charity.
In April 2021 it came as a total shock when, at age 41, my sister Annette was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer. Although a cure doesn't appear possible for Annette, with her grit and determination, a great medical team and support from family and friends, she is doing all she can to live well with cancer.
I hope that by harnessing just a little of Annette's determination I'll complete the marathon and meet my fundraising target. Anything you can spare to help me reach my target would be very much appreciated.
I hope you'll also take the time to familiarise yourself with the most common symptoms of bowel cancer and never think that it's too embarrassing, or assume that you're too young, to speak to your GP about it.
