Story
On the 28th March 2021 our baby daughter Gwen was born sleeping. Days earlier we had arrived at our 20 week scan, excited to find out whether our children would be getting a new baby brother or sister. Instead, we were told our baby’s heart had stopped beating. We still have no answers why and probably never will. Devastated does not even begin to cover our feelings.
In our darkest of times, the care we received from the midwives on the Labour Ward at Prince Charles Hospital was incredible. Because of the work of the charity SIMBA, they were able to give us the most precious memory box to remember Gwen. It has been such a comfort to have at least something of hers to keep forever. We have been lucky enough to bring home invaluable keepsakes such as hand and footprints, clay prints and matching teddies for Gwen and our other two children.
Our bereavement midwife has told us that the charity donates these memory boxes to hospitals completely free of charge. SIMBA make 3 different styles of box depending on babies gestation when born, ranging in price from £10 to £40, and rely on volunteers to knit and sew items for the boxes as well as pack them. They also refurbish Family Rooms giving families and peaceful homely place in the hospital to send time with their baby.
Our target is to raise enough money to fund 3 more boxes to give to families who are going through the same thing we have. We know just how precious these boxes are and can’t thank SIMBA enough for their wonderful work.
Thank you
