As an independent recording artist, I usually release a single via YouTube especially for my existing fans in the lead-up to Christmas, created and recorded with my co-songwriter Steve Birkett. This year, once again, given developments within my family over the last two years, I want to use the opportunity to encourage support for Dementia UK.
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas was written in 1943 by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane and was introduced by Judy Garland in the 1944 MGM musical "Meet Me in St Louis". Steve and I have recorded it just with an acoustic guitar and filmed ourselves in a traditional Christmas setting. Given everything that has happened over the last two years and with the shadow of another wave of the pandemic creeping over us now, we thought it appropriate to capture the essence of a traditional Christmas as a symbol of the normality for which we all yearn. We hope that whatever you celebrate at this time of year, you can relate to this sentiment.
In the video we have included pictures of our two canine companions, Frankie and Ralph, who appear with the lyrics "Faithful friends who are dear to us, they gather near to us once more..." to represent everyone who has helped and supported us over the last year - thank you all.
Dementia has a terrible impact on both the person affected and those around them. I know from experience that the restrictions of the last two years have had a serious impact on those suffering from dementia and those caring from them. Under these circumstances, the support provided by Dementia UK is more needed than ever.
I am very grateful for any support you can give this worthy cause.
